My placement in Saint Brigid's Special Needs School in Dundalk was of great significance to me in my teacher training. For two weeks I had the amazing opportunity to work with young students who were so ready and willing to learn. I had to majorly differentiate within a single class and at times act on my feet as the lesson progressed. To work in an environment so student-central and energetic was incredibly rewarding and I learned a lot about how to communicate with students and how to assess and adapt for individual needs. Lessons were planned around student experience, to ensure that students were getting as much time as possible to experiment with the materials and build fine motor skills. Schemes included screen printing, imaginative composition and construction and all the students work was exhibited in An Tain gallery in Dundalk for 3 weeks, for which there was an opening night and ceremony.
